Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo
Doubtful: Yoshihiro Nakano, Akito Fukumori, Shunta Tanaka
Injured/Unavailable: Shunta Awaka (knee surgery), Musashi Suzuki (thigh)
MAIN PREDICTION: AWAY WIN
Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo played Yokohama F.Marinos at their own game last weekend in their home league game, coming out well-deserved 3-1 winners against the 2019 champions. Slick passing, high pressing and great finishing saw goals from Yoshiaki Komai, Takuma Arano and late substitute Takura Kaneko, turned a 1-0 deficit on 15 minutes into an easy win. They played the game beautifully with the best selection of players for the system, but I am not sure they can do it so well again, especially against the completely different, conservative passing game of Vissel Kobe.
Vissel Kobe were beaten 2-0 at home by Gamba Osaka last weekend in the league. Gamba Osaka were electrifying and, while Vissel Kobe tried to control the game with their possession and passing, they failed to pick up a goalscorer on two occasions, which was fatal. It has been noticeable in recent away games – two draws and a win, unbeaten on the road – that Vissel Kobe rest players to rotate the squad and the younger player, or players who might not normally expect to play, come in and give their all to impress, which actually raises their game.
An away win with a rotated squad, including younger players for Vissel Kobe is what I see coming here.
HEAD TO HEAD
In league matches between these two teams last season Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo won both games.
