Fiorentina is welcoming Juventus in a derby match of round 3 in Italian Serie A,
Fiorentina has the potential to be in top 5 in Serie A without a doubt but they have been struggling throughout the last season and those struggles are still here. After the first 2 games in Serie A, Fiorentina has 2 defeats against Napoli and Genoa. In their last game against Genoa, Fiorentina had 51% of ball possession, 6 shots on goal, 8 corner kicks, and 79% of correct passes. Fiorentina lost this match 2-1 and the only goal they score was by Pulgar from a penalty kick. Fiorentina is a very young team led by Chiessa and Benassi, Milinkovic and now Ribery who arrived as a free player from Bayern Munich. Pulgar has scored 2 goals, while Milinkovic and Boateng each added 1 goal in first 2 games. Rasmussen is the only injured player in Fiorentina. Vicenzo Montella was signed as a head coach in April of this year in hope that he can wake up this team and get them back on the winning track but is yet to win a game in Serie A since his arrival. In the preseason Fiorentina was great and hasn't lost a game, but since the beginning of the season their defense is full of holes and Fiorentina is getting scored on way to easy. Good thing is that the season has just started and this international break came at the right time for Fiorentina who needs to start turning things around if they want to be competitive in Serie A.
Juventus is the best team in Italy and has been the Serie A champion for a few years in a row now but the management of the club has already announced that their priority this season is the Champions League. In the first two games, Juventus has 2 wins with the latter one being against their main competitor, Napoli. In that game, Juventus had only 44% of ball possession, 7 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, and 86% of correct passes. It was a fun and exciting game to watch, with a lot of good moves and chances and just when we thought that the match will end in a 3-3 draw, Koulibaly scored an own goal in 92nd minute and Juventus won 4-3. Juventus has brought a new coach this summer, Maurizio Sarri who has won Europa League with Chelsea last season and Juventus' management feels that he can be their secret weapon on the journey to the Champions League title. Juventus has great players on every position both in the starting lineup and on the bench, and this depth might be the thing that will keep them in play for Champions League. Juventus is playing nice soccer, with high possession in the midfield and high pressure when not in the possession. Defensively, Juventus is the best in Italy and one of the best in Europe. Perin and Pjaca are injured while Ramsey is listed as questionable. Even though Serie A is not their priority, Juventus is still the first favorite simply because they are more experienced and have more quality than Napoli or Inter.
I think that the time for Fiorentina to win their first Serie A game in a while is close and with Juventus playing Champions League next week this could be their chance. Instead of picking the winner, I will pick something on goals because both teams are good offensively.
