MAIN PREDICTION: DRAW
Osnabruck are now winless in three after winning three of their first five on the season to be an early surprise of the 2. Bundesliga season. More concerning is that they became the first to fall to Wehen and did so by being held scoreless yet again away from home. Osnabruck has now gone 281 consecutive minutes on the road without a goal. Last season’s 3. Liga champion still sits in the middle of the table, but with three points separating 16th in the table and Osnabruck’s spot in eleven, things are getting tighter for Daniel Thioune’s squad, while the trainer works around a roster clipped by injuries.
Even after going down to ten men for the final half-hour against Stuttgart, Bielefeld continued to threaten the visiting table-toppers an would have deserved at least a point. An added-time goal lifted the visitors in the end, but Bielefeld remain unbeaten on the road this season, outscoring their hosts 13-6 in four matches for ten points. Uwe Neuhaus will have to find a way to keep the offense churning without top scorer Fabian Klos, who will be suspended for receiving a second yellow card against Stuttgart. If Reinhold Yabo, Patrick Weihrauch, and Nils Seufert are fit enough to contribute, it may be enough to offset the void left by the absence of captain Klos.
Bielefeld proved to everyone they are a legitimate contender this season with their performance against Stuttgart, who had to feel fortunate to get the win last weekend. Osnabruck is experiencing a dip after a strong start, but will rally against their rivals. Both teams take a point.
SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST TEAM TO SCORE - OSNABRUCK
Osnabruck have scored first in all four of their home matches to date. With Bielefeld playing without Klos for the first time this season, their offense may take a little time coming into the match, especially against what should be a well-structured defense boosted by the rivalry atmosphere.
This will be the first league meeting between the clubs since they were both in the 3. Liga from 2011 to 2015. The visiting team won each meeting during the 2014-15 season, the last time both were in the same league.
