Villarreal has ended the last season in high, 5th place, and they will be playing in the Europa League this season. Offensively, Villarreal was one of the best teams in LaLiga with 63 scored goals, while their defense wasn’t bad with 49 conceded goals. In the preseason, Villarreal has played 5 games, and they have 3 losses and 2 wins, alongside 9 scored goals and 8 conceded goals. Funes Mori, Moreno, Bacca, and Guerra are all injured, and they will miss the first match of the season. There are few important players that have left Villarreal, and Ekambi, Unal, Gonzalez, and Cazorla are among them. Cazorla was Vaillarreal’s best player last season and will certainly be missed a lot. The most notable arrival to the club is Francis Coquelin, a French midfielder who arrived from Valencia, and Dani Parejo, another midfielder from Valencia who should be a decent replacement for Cazorla. The skeleton of this team has remained untouched, but they do have the new head coach, Unai Emery, who can raise this team to the new level. I think we can expect another successful season for Villareal, and I think they could be a real threat in the Europa League as well.

Huesca is the newcomer to LaLiga after winning the LaLiga 2 with 70 points. Huesca was great in the preseason, and they have 2 wins and 1 draw and their 3 friendly games. During this stretch, Huesca has scored 6 goals, while conceding only 2 goals. Huesca is consistent in the attacking end, which important because LaLiga is a different beast. Defensively, Huesca is doing well, but we will see how they will do against stronger teams. Huesca’s head coach is a Spanish expert Michael, and this is only his second team. Before Huesca, Michael was the head coach in Rayo Vallecano where he did a good job. There are no injuries or suspension in Huesca as of right now. There aren’t any notable incoming or outgoing transfers in Huesca, but they did sign some players from Schalke, Villarreal, and Stuttgart. Huesca was solid on both ends in LaLiga 2 last season, but as I said, LaLiga is a different beast, and Huesca will need to elevate their game to a new level if they want to compete with the best. I think Huesca does have enough quality to stay in LaLiga, but I think that will their maximum in their first season back.

Villarreal has never lost to Huesca at home. Villarreal is the better team here, with better players, better game style, and more depth and quality on the bench. Villarreal has some problems with injuries at the start of the new season, but I believe that Emery will do everything to win the first game of the season. I will side with Villarreal at home.

Pick: Villarreal -1
