MAIN PREDICTION: AWAY WIN
Cheyenne Dunkley pulled one back during the second half but it wasn’t enough for Wigan who slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against a play-off chasing Preston side on Saturday. Improvements in Huddersfield and Stoke’s form recently has left the home side in 22nd place, four points behind Charlton in 21st.
Middlesbrough were on course for a valuable point away from home against a Brentford side who are in the mix for automatic promotion on the weekend, but Ollie Watkins’ 87th-minute strike sent the visitors back to Teesside with nothing to show for their efforts. Jonathan Woodgate’s men are now without a win in five league games.
Middlesbrough showed plenty of promise against a much stronger Brentford side on Saturday and should fare better here.
SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST TEAM TO SCORE – MIDDLESBROUGH
Wigan slipped into a 2-0 deficit against Preston on Saturday and I expect them to fall behind again in midweek against a Middlesbrough side who showed plenty of attacking ability against a strong Brentford side. Middlesbrough have kept a clean sheet in their last four matches against Wigan in all competitions.
HEAD TO HEAD
Middlesbrough have won three and drawn one of their last four league games against Wigan.
